Crypto Tokens Exploit BSoD Hype Amid Global Outage

by Ouess

Several new crypto tokens themed after the “Blue Screen of Death” (BSoD) error and cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike were issued on Ethereum and Solana blockchains. This coincided with a reported global internet outage affecting multiple real-world services.

Blue Screen of Death Chaos

Millions of Windows users are facing the BSoD error, causing sudden system shutdowns or restarts. This issue has impacted various businesses, including airlines, railways, and stock exchanges. Reports suggest the error is linked to a faulty CrowdStrike software update.

Token Frenzy on Ethereum and Solana

Despite the chaos, no crypto-related companies have reported service disruptions as of Friday morning in Europe. Data from DEXTools and DEXScreener reveal that tokens named after CrowdStrike, Microsoft, and BSoD were issued and actively traded. Some of these tokens boast liquidity up to $50,000 in stablecoins, with market capitalizations quickly reaching $1 million on paper.

Trending Tokens and Market Behavior

CrowdStrike and Microsoft became trending topics, leading to a surge in token creation on Solana-based platform Pump Fun. This platform saw the creation of hundreds of meme tokens referring to these companies. Creating tokens based on trending news is a niche behavior in the crypto market. While these tokens often lose value due to lack of fundamental backing, early creators and buyers can still profit from the hype.
