Japanese investment firm Metaplanet Inc. (3350) continues to bet big on Bitcoin. The company recently added 319 BTC to its treasury, deepening its digital asset holdings and reinforcing its bold capital strategy.

4,525 BTC Now in Treasury
Metaplanet’s latest purchase came in at an average price of $83,147 per BTC, bringing the firm’s total Bitcoin stash to 4,525 BTC. The overall cost basis now stands at $408.1 million, with an average acquisition cost of $90,194 per BTC.
This aggressive buying spree is part of Metaplanet’s broader Bitcoin treasury strategy, first launched in December 2024.
Boosting Shareholder Value with Bitcoin
According to the company, this move isn’t just about digital assets. It’s about maximizing shareholder value. Metaplanet measures performance using BTC Yield—a metric that compares Bitcoin holdings to shares outstanding.
In Q1 2025, Metaplanet’s BTC Yield hit 95.6%, while its year-to-date yield stood at 6.5% as of April 14.
This data points to meaningful growth in Bitcoin per share—one of the core goals of the firm’s treasury plan.
Backed by Capital Market Moves
Metaplanet is not just using reserves to buy Bitcoin. Its purchases are fueled by capital market activity like bond issuances and stock acquisition rights. This approach allows the company to raise funds while limiting shareholder dilution.
So far, the firm has completed about 41.7% of its ambitious “210 million plan”, which aims to restructure the balance sheet and enhance returns through digital assets.
Final Thoughts
The Metaplanet Bitcoin strategy stands out in a landscape where more traditional firms are still cautiously exploring crypto. With over 4,500 BTC now in its treasury and continued strategic funding, Metaplanet is positioning itself as a long-term believer in Bitcoin’s role as a treasury asset.
As crypto adoption grows, moves like these could set new standards for corporate balance sheets.
