Bitget Thailand acquisition is now in talks. The crypto exchange plans to expand in Southeast Asia by acquiring a Bangkok-based digital asset company. Specifically, it will absorb GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand) Co., Ltd.
Why the Bitget Thailand acquisition matters
The agreement may provide a way for Bitget to enter the Thai market. Instead of building from scratch, it will use an existing local broker. Bitget will buy the shares through its subsidiary, BTGT Management (Thailand) Ltd.
Meanwhile, GMO Internet and its subsidiary will transfer all shares. They will transfer them to BTGT Management or a designated entity. However, the pact is not complete yet. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions.
GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics recently launched a crypto exchange. It also launched a digital asset brokerage service under Thai licenses. Therefore, the acquisition would let Bitget enter the market with an existing operation.
CEO Gracy Chen highlights local strategy
Bitget’s planned move comes as the company explores Southeast Asia. At the same time, demand for digital financial services is rising. However, individual markets have different regulatory requirements.
“Building a presence in a market requires local expertise,” stated Bitget CEO Gracy Chen. She added that it also requires understanding the regulatory environment. Furthermore, it demands a long-term commitment.
She said Thailand is an important part of Southeast Asia’s digital asset landscape. Consequently, the acquisition gives Bitget a great opportunity. “Our priority is to develop the right operational foundation,” she added. The company will bring its global experience to the market.
The deal may provide Bitget with local expertise and established customers. It also fits the company’s global expansion strategy. At the same time, it respects national regulations.
Bitget Thailand acquisition awaits regulatory approval
After closing and regulatory approval of the change of control, Bitget plans to launch its platform. The rollout would provide trading services within Thai law. The proposed acquisition is pending approvals. Therefore, completion would mark a possible milestone in Bitget’s regional expansion.
