Jeonbuk Bank bitcoin loans have launched for corporate clients. The South Korean bank is the first in the country to offer crypto-backed loans. It lets firms borrow cash against Bitcoin holdings.
Why Jeonbuk Bank bitcoin loans matter
Jeonbuk Bank is a unit of JB Financial Group. It issues loans in Korean won. Proceeds are limited to business operating costs. A bank official confirmed one loan already executed. However, they did not name the borrower.
How Jeonbuk Bank bitcoin loans work
Only Bitcoin can be used as collateral for now. The bank does not hold BTC itself. Instead, a registered crypto service provider holds the assets in custody. If a borrower fails to repay, the bank recovers money via court-ordered sale. This draws on revised Civil Enforcement Rules effective October 1. These rules set legal steps for seizing digital assets.
Loan details and collateral rules
The bank ran stress tests on Bitcoin price drops. It chose BTC for deep liquidity. Therefore, funds can be liquidated when needed. The report did not disclose loan rates or borrowing limits. However, the bank reviewed loan-to-value ratios and margin-call thresholds. These covered major tokens including Bitcoin and Ether.
What comes next for Jeonbuk Bank bitcoin loans
The bank could expand based on demand and regulatory changes. CEO Park Chun-won said earlier this year the lender would roll out the country’s first crypto-backed loan. Consequently, this launch marks a major step for crypto credit in South Korea.
