US Government Bitcoin Wallet Moves $1B in Seized BTC

A minimalist infographic summary of the massive Bitcoin transaction: The US Government has moved $1B of seized Bitcoin.

US government Bitcoin wallet moved more than $1 billion in seized BTC on Wednesday. Consequently, blockchain analysts tracked the transaction closely.

Specifically, Arkham Research linked the wallet to the Bitfinex hack recovery. The transfer followed earlier movements worth $770 million. Moreover, those funds went to a Coinbase Prime wallet. Therefore, the latest move marked another major government transfer.

Why the US government Bitcoin wallet transfer matters

The wallet transferred more than 12,267 BTC. In addition, that amount was worth over $1 billion at press time. Meanwhile, the recipient address owner remained unknown.

Estimates suggest the US government held 328,372 BTC as of 2026. These holdings came from seized assets in criminal cases and investigations. In March 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order. The order established a strategic Bitcoin and crypto reserve. Nevertheless, lawmakers are still trying to codify it into law. Therefore, the reserve remains a policy goal rather than settled law.
