Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, may have left his CEO position at Binance, but this shift might signal a potential boost for the decentralized science (DeSci) field. In a recent statement on X (previously Twitter), the former Binance CEO expressed interest in this rapidly growing sector.
Binance faced a hefty $4.3 billion settlement following a United States Justice Department (DOJ) investigation, leading CZ to pay a personal $50 million fine and step down from his leadership role.
Moving from leading the world’s largest crypto exchange to a potentially leisurely role might not align with CZ’s longstanding dedication to work. The 46-year-old entrepreneur had no prior plans to retire before the DOJ ordeal.
Given his newfound time and resources, CZ has various possibilities. Should he venture into DeSci, he’d be entering a diverse domain encompassing decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), biotech, finance, publishing, data storage, foundations, and more.
The DeSci sector, according to OpSci, an autonomous research community, is still in its early stages and is actively establishing its position within the broader scientific community, indicating substantial opportunities ahead.
