Avalanche, a leading blockchain platform, has announced a major update aimed at making it easier for game developers to create dedicated gaming blockchains. Traditionally, launching a blockchain required significant initial investments and technical expertise, which hindered innovation among smaller and independent game developers.
Introducing Pay-As-You-Go for Layer 1 Networks
In a groundbreaking move, Avalanche is rolling out a pay-as-you-go system for its Layer 1 (L1) networks. This new model removes the necessity for developers to lock large amounts of AVAX, Avalanche’s native token, for each validator supporting their blockchain. Previously, developers had to lock 2,000 AVAX per validator, creating a substantial financial barrier. This update lowers the entry threshold, making blockchain technology more accessible to a broader range of developers.
Benefits for the Gaming Industry
The new system is particularly advantageous for the gaming sector. By eliminating high upfront costs, game developers can now experiment more freely and dedicate specific blockchains to individual games, regardless of their size. This level of customization was previously unattainable for smaller projects due to financial and technical constraints. Importantly, these dedicated gaming blockchains will still maintain interoperability with other L1s on the Avalanche network
