A clean, minimalist infographic showing the insurance company, the raised capital in Bitcoin, and the upward trajectory of the funding round.

Meanwhile Bitcoin life insurer has raised $37.5 million in fresh funding. Bain Capital Crypto led the round. Consequently, total capital raised now exceeds $180 million.

The company announced the investment on October 8. Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, and Pantera Capital participated. Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital also joined.

Why the Meanwhile Bitcoin Life Insurer Raise Matters

Meanwhile is based in Bermuda. It offers Bitcoin-denominated life insurance policies. Demand has increased among wealthy families in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Therefore, the company plans to expand internationally.

Specifically, Meanwhile signed 15 insurance brokers. These brokers serve wealthy clients in Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the UAE. As a result, the new funding will support that distribution network.

Meanwhile Raises $37.5M to Expand Bitcoin Insurance

The latest round came from existing investors. Bain Capital Crypto returned as lead investor. It had supported previous rounds as well.

For context, Meanwhile raised $82 million in October 2025. Bain Capital Crypto and Haun Ventures jointly led that round. Before that, the company completed a $40 million Series A in April. Framework Ventures and Fulgur Ventures backed that raise.

The October 2025 round brought 2025 funding to about $122 million. With this $37.5 million round, Meanwhile has raised over $180 million since founding. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was an earlier backer. However, the October 8 announcement did not list him in the latest round.

Co-founder and CEO Zac Townsend explained the demand. “Brokers came to us because their clients kept asking,” he said. Clients wanted insurance products that transfer Bitcoin to family members.

Bain Capital Crypto partner Stefan Cohen commented. He cited Meanwhile’s mix of traditional insurance and technology. He also said its 2026 performance supported the new investment. Meanwhile has not disclosed revenue or valuation figures.

BTC Life 1-Pay Drives International Expansion

Meanwhile’s expansion centers on BTC Life 1-Pay. This whole life insurance product launched in early 2026. It targets wealthy customers outside the U.S.

Unlike conventional policies, BTC Life 1-Pay uses a single Bitcoin premium. In return, the insurer provides a guaranteed death benefit in BTC. The policy value grows in Bitcoin. After the first year, owners can borrow against it.

According to the company, owners can borrow up to 90% of policy value. The loan has no fixed repayment schedule. It also has no margin calls. Individuals, trusts, or companies can hold the policy. The structure targets inheritance planning.

Because the policy is denominated in BTC, its dollar value changes with Bitcoin’s price. Meanwhile also offers BTC 10-Pay for U.S. taxpayers. That product spreads premiums over ten years.

Meanwhile operates through a regulated insurance structure. It receives premiums and pays benefits in Bitcoin. Its reserves and audited statements use Bitcoin as well. The company has not disclosed how many policies it has sold.

Meanwhile Signs 15 Brokers Across Key Markets

Since launching BTC Life 1-Pay, Meanwhile signed 15 brokers. These partners serve wealthy families across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

One partner is Lioner. It provides insurance, trust, and family office services. It operates in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Zurich. Another partner is Apeiron Group. That marketplace specializes in life insurance for wealthy clients.

Lioner partner Giorgio Jeni commented. He said clients with international investments increasingly consider digital assets. “Transparency, sound governance and strong regulation will remain important,” he said.

Apeiron Group CEO Justin Man also spoke. He cited growing interest in transferring digital assets to future generations. “We’re reaching a turning point,” Man said. More high-net-worth clients now ask how to plan around Bitcoin.

Meanwhile has not disclosed customer numbers from each partnership. However, its financial performance has improved. Net long-term underwriting income for 2026 already exceeded all of 2025. The company expects that measure to more than double by year-end.

Bermuda Regulator Licensed Meanwhile in July 2024

Meanwhile operates through Meanwhile Insurance Bitcoin (Bermuda) Limited. The company received a Class IILT license in July 2024. The Bermuda Monetary Authority granted the license.

Before authorization, Meanwhile spent about two years in the regulator’s sandbox. The BMA register confirms the license date as July 25, 2024. The classification permits long-term insurance products.

Meanwhile denominates its financial statements and reserves in Bitcoin. It holds customer assets with regulated institutional custodians. The insurer can transact long-term business with sophisticated persons. Product availability remains subject to local rules.

Meanwhile has identified Singapore, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and the UAE as key markets. The company has not announced additional licenses. It also has not provided a timetable for other jurisdictions.

What Comes Next for the Meanwhile Bitcoin Life Insurer

The new funding supports international growth. Meanwhile will develop more broker relationships. It will also expand its Bitcoin insurance products. However, regulatory rules and market demand will shape its pace. For now, the raise positions the company for further expansion.
