Trump TRUMP memecoin event is officially happening. The White House confirmed that President Donald Trump will deliver a keynote address at a gala luncheon on Saturday at his Mar-a-Lago resort. The event is organized by the company behind the Official Trump (TRUMP) memecoin.
Who gets in? The top 297 holders of the TRUMP token. The top 29 of those will also qualify for a private reception with the president. That’s serious VIP access – for holding a memecoin.
Trump TRUMP Memecoin Event Raises Eyebrows
When the event was announced back in March, a White House official said it wasn’t locked into Trump’s schedule. The fine print even stated that Trump “may not be able to attend” and that the event “may be canceled for any reason.” But now, Reuters reports the White House has confirmed his attendance.
The timing is interesting. The same day, Trump is scheduled to attend the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, DC – his first as president. So, he’s pulling double duty.
Lawmakers are not happy. Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren, Richard Blumenthal, and Adam Schiff sent a letter questioning whether Trump intends to “dangle access” to himself to drive memecoin purchases. They argue that transaction fees from the TRUMP token generate revenue for the president and his family.
This is the second such event. The first took place in May 2025 at a Trump golf club and drew similar criticism.
For crypto traders, the news could spark short-term interest in the TRUMP token. But the political backlash may limit upside.
My Thoughts
This is unprecedented. A sitting president hosting a memecoin holder gala? Wild. The TRUMP token is already a controversial mix of politics and crypto. Now, with direct access on the line, some whales may accumulate just for the invite. That could pump the price short-term. But the political risk is real – Warren and company are already sharpening their knives. Expect more hearings and possibly legislation targeting politician-linked memecoins. For traders, this is a high-risk, high-reward play. If you hold TRUMP, watch the event for any official announcements. If not, maybe stay on the sidelines. The optics are not great.
