Former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his disapproval of a token mocking his political rival, Joe Biden, stating, “I don’t like that investment.” Despite this, Trump signaled his openness to receiving cryptocurrency donations.
The saying “any publicity is good publicity” seems to ring true for meme coins, even when the attention is fleeting. Jeo Boden (BODEN), a humorous crypto token inspired by a misspelling of President Joe Biden’s name, saw a surge of up to 25% following Trump’s response to a supporter’s inquiry about it.
During the Trump Cards NFT Gala event, held for holders of digital collectibles featuring his image, Trump dismissed BODEN during an impromptu Q&A session, expressing his lack of favor for the investment. Despite this, BODEN experienced fluctuations but maintained a 15% increase in value from when Trump made his remarks.
Although Trump’s presidential campaign is currently not set up to accept cryptocurrency donations, he indicated his intention to change that during the event. Responding to a query about crypto donations, Trump assured, “If you can’t, I’ll make sure you can.”
Meanwhile, on the Polymarket prediction market platform, trading activity surrounding the contract “Will Trump mention $boden before July?” remained stagnant. The contract defines a “mention” as either a verbal or written reference to the cryptocurrency through Trump’s official communication channels. Despite Trump’s comment not meeting the criteria, shares indicating a belief that he will mention “Boden” by July remained unchanged, suggesting a 5% probability according to traders.
