Binance Pay PayPay Integration Launches in Japan

by Ouess Crypto
A minimalist, high-quality photograph of a single, custom-fabricated architectural wall panel made of brushed, deep teal metal. The panel features a subtle, matte geometric network grid pattern etched across its surface. Mounted in the center of the teal panel is a three-dimensional, metallic symbol, perfectly proportional and detailed. This symbol is an interlocked fusion of the specific 'NEAR' asset symbol with a stylized circular gear and an exchange pillar structure, rendered in dimensional bronze and silver metals. At the top of the teal metal panel, in a clean, large, white sans-serif font, are two lines of text: 'BITWISE NEAR ETF LAUNCHES' on the first line, and 'ON NYSE ARCA' on the second line. The entire physical sign asset is presented centered on a plain, textured grey concrete-like floor, as a standalone element with sharp, clean edges. Soft, dimensional studio lighting highlights the metallic textures and the etched grid and text, creating elegant reflections and maintaining a premium aesthetic.

Binance Pay PayPay integration is now live across Japan. Starting September 30, 2026, eligible overseas visitors can spend crypto at PayPay merchants.

Merchants still receive Japanese yen. Therefore, the cashier never holds digital assets.

Why Binance Pay PayPay Integration Matters

Binance Pay becomes the first crypto payment service to access PayPay merchants. It achieves this through HIVEX, a federated payment framework developed by TBCASoft. No merchant opt-in is required.

The integration works through HIVEX. That same framework already connects nine overseas QR payment services. These mainly come from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

How the Binance Pay PayPay Integration Works

Overseas Binance users scan a PayPay QR code. They can also present a payment code. The system converts crypto to yen at the point of sale.

Both consumer-presented mode and merchant-presented mode are supported. Additionally, Binance says zero gas fees apply at checkout.

The pool of eligible users spans approximately 48 million Binance Pay users. They come from over 100 countries as of June 1, 2026. However, Japan residents and Binance Japan account holders are excluded.

Tourist Market and Discount Incentive

To sweeten the launch, Binance offers a limited-time 10% instant discount. This applies at PayPay merchants for eligible overseas users.

PayPay covers millions of locations nationwide. These include convenience stores, restaurants, supermarkets, shopping malls, and transit stations.

Japan recorded 42.7 million international arrivals in 2025. In August 2026 alone, 3.1 million foreign visitors arrived. That tourist pipeline is the product’s core market.

Broader Binance Strategy and Competition

This launch is not a one-off tourism campaign. Instead, it sits inside a broader Binance stablecoin distribution strategy.

Binance bought $100 million in Circle shares earlier this month. It also expanded its USDC partnership. The PayPay deal adds a high-traffic yen-rail checkout to that push.

The corporate context matters too. PayPay took a 40% stake in Binance Japan in October 2025. That deal also allowed PayPay Money deposits and withdrawals for local users.

The September 30 integration is the inbound counterpart. It routes global crypto balances into the same yen rails PayPay already runs.

Competitors are building rival spend rails. For example, SoFi and Mastercard launched stablecoin settlement using SoFiUSD. Meanwhile, Ripple and SBI completed a Japan–Korea stablecoin transfer pilot.

Risks and Regulatory Context

One risk worth noting: USDT faces scrutiny beyond Japan. A U.S. Senate probe found USDT was used in Iran-linked wallets. Tether says it froze roughly $550 million this year. That compliance cloud hangs over any USDT expansion.

Japan’s stablecoin infrastructure has been building toward this. JPYC secured $38 million in a Series B extension. That funding backs in-store stablecoin trials with Lawson. Additionally, the Japan FSA outlined plans for a tax-filing exemption on trust-based stablecoins.
