Bitcoin’s value surged by over $200 after an unexpected turn of events involving the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) trailer, which inadvertently became a promotional vehicle for the cryptocurrency. The leaked video featured a conspicuous watermark saying “Buy $BTC.”
Initially, a lower-quality version of the trailer surfaced, prompting the creators, Rockstar Games, to swiftly release the official high-quality version a week ahead of schedule, addressing the leak through a message on X.
The leaker earned praise from crypto enthusiasts for indirectly promoting Bitcoin. Following the leak, Bitcoin experienced a $700 spike (1.2%), soaring from $41,700 to $42,400 before settling at $41,940 later.
Unfortunately, the leaked GTA VI trailer was promptly removed after gaining attention. Despite its brief exposure, some users are keen on circulating the video to support the leaker’s actions.
Bitcoin has been consistently rising, showing a 12.7% increase from $37,400 to $41,900 at the time. This surge marks a 150-day high for the cryptocurrency.
The GTA VI trailer, while lacking a release date and console specifics, is reportedly a massive production, with costs exceeding $1 billion so far. The game is set for a 2025 release on Xbox Series S/X and Playstation 5, with no mention yet of plans for a PC version.
