Solana made a big splash recently by surpassing Ethereum in Google searches for the first time ever. From December 17 to 23, global interest in Solana outpaced Ethereum, hitting a peak score of 56 compared to Ethereum’s 50 on Google Trends.

In specific countries like Spain and the Philippines, Solana dominated search interest over Ethereum. However, Ethereum still holds the lead in countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, Morocco, and other regions.
This shift in search interest underlines Solana’s growing appeal on a wider scale. A lot of this attention is likely due to the popularity of memecoins operating on the Solana network.

Google Trends data highlighted a surge in interest in Solana-based projects such as Bonk. This dog-themed meme token briefly overtook Dogecoin’s competitor, Pepe, in terms of market capitalization, causing a stir in the markets.
Solana’s native token, SOL, hit several significant milestones, further driving the search interest. It briefly surpassed XRP as the fourth-largest cryptocurrency and also outpaced BNB as the fourth-largest coin for a short period.
At the moment, SOL seems to be riding high on market enthusiasm, although some analysts question its sustainability beyond short-term trends. If Solana can leverage this short-term excitement to build lasting adoption, it could position itself as a credible Ethereum alternative in the long run.
