In a recent tweet, Wietse Wind shared plans to integrate debit card functionality into the Xumm wallet, responding to a request from an XRP enthusiast eager to use their debit card with Xumm. This effort comes after Wind’s previous announcement about new functionality for Xumm-Tangem NFC hardware wallet cards, allowing users to pre-fund the cards with $50 in XRP, alongside the account reserve.
Clarifying queries from the XRP community, Wind specified that the Tangem NFC hardware wallet cards are not meant for use at terminals or ATMs but serve as secure devices for safeguarding crypto assets.
Regarding the potential for linking credit cards to Xumm, Wind hinted at a future project combining Xumm’s self-custody with debit cards. However, user John Mcclain urged that any debit card integration should avoid additional fees, citing Uphold’s significant fees for debit transactions, which can accumulate rapidly.
Wind acknowledged the nature of credit/debit cards involving fees that facilitate features like insurance and cashback, suggesting the need for alternative solutions to cover these costs. He believes establishing a distinct financial infrastructure could be beneficial in the long run.
