FIFA, the governing body for global soccer events, has unveiled plans to release a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in partnership with Modex, a blockchain company. This exclusive NFT collection launch will coincide with the upcoming 2023 Club World Cup hosted in Saudi Arabia.
As per the announcement made on December 11, the premier collection will comprise 100 NFTs and will make its debut on December 15. Among the highlights, fans can vie for a chance to secure tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. Additionally, 900 other digital collectibles will be introduced on the Polygon network and OpenSea throughout the month. These collectibles will showcase memorable moments from the ongoing tournament and digital renditions of sought-after memorabilia.
The NFTs will be accessible on FIFA’s dedicated platform, FIFA+ Collect, which was launched in September 2022 and operates on Algorand’s technology. Romy Gai, FIFA’s Chief Business Officer, emphasized that these new launches aim to offer football enthusiasts an innovative way to engage with the sport while bolstering the digital collectibles market.
Since its inception, the FIFA+ Collect platform has initiated 11 NFT drops, resulting in the creation of 909,255 digital collectibles and attracting 16,448 holders. The platform has facilitated a cumulative trading volume of $2.4 million across primary and secondary NFT markets.
