Uniswap Labs Acquires CTG: A Game-Changing Move into Web3 Gaming

Since its January launch, the Survivor-inspired game, Crypto: The Game (CTG), has rapidly gained a dedicated following. Uniswap Labs, the team behind the leading decentralized exchange Uniswap, is now making a move into web3 gaming with its recent acquisition.

On June 10, Uniswap Labs announced its acquisition of Crypto: The Game (CTG), a Survivor-style game operating on the Layer 2 network. In CTG, contestants compete to be the last one standing out of 800 participants, with the winner receiving a prize pool of ETH.

CTG’s team will join Uniswap Labs and will be responsible for developing the game’s third season, as well as creating on-chain experiments for the Uniswap community. Uniswap Labs aims to elevate Season 3 with new themes, twists, and on-chain drama.

Deal Details and Vision

While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, Uniswap Labs’ Chief Operating Officer, Mary-Catherine Lader, revealed that CTG will receive a combination of cash, tokens, and equity. Lader emphasized Uniswap’s commitment to enhancing on-chain experiences by making them more engaging and enjoyable.

CTG’s Success Story

CTG made waves in the web3 gaming landscape with its debut season in January, where contestants competed for a prize pool by voting each other off until one winner emerged. The second season, launched in April, sold out in just 13 minutes, attracting thousands of eager participants. CTG’s seasons are broadcasted on social media platforms such as X and Farcaster.

Engaging a Wider Audience

Dylan Abruscato, co-founder of CTG, highlighted the game’s appeal to non-crypto audiences, estimating that 10% to 15% of viewers are from outside the crypto space. CTG’s website attracted 50,000 unique visitors during Season 2, evolving into a 24/7 crypto reality show filled with drama and fan favorites.

Corporate Recognition and Sponsorship

CTG Season 2 caught the attention of major companies, including Uniswap Labs, which sponsored a challenge in the season. Adidas also got involved by creating branded tracksuits for players in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).


Uniswap Labs’ acquisition of CTG underscores the growing intersection between gaming and blockchain technology. As CTG continues to captivate audiences and engage new users, Uniswap Labs aims to leverage its acquisition to enrich the crypto gaming experience.
